With wonderful website builders, anyone can create an attractive and effective website easily.
From personal portfolio to blog of genius articles, with this simple guide, you can create your website all by yourself. So, let's start the journey to create your first website for free.

Step #1: Choose A Platform

First of all you need to choose a platform to build your website. A website building platform is actually combination of a Web hosting and a CMS (content management system). However you can choose a web hosting and a CMS differently but we recommend you to stick with a single platform as it's simple to understand for beginners. And also free web hosting services are not very much reliable.

1. WordPress

You probably heard about WordPress, the world's one of the most popular and powerful CMS and website building platforms. WordPress is very easy to understand and takes a few minutes to start. As a beginner, you can choose WordPress for your first website. It gives both paid and free services. Free service is very limited but makes the job done. However paid service, according to paying rate, unlocks a lot of potentials.WordPress.com offers a platform/website builder, however, you can have the CMS as a PHP script from WordPress.Org to use in your separate hosting. To simplify things we will stick with WordPress.com.
To start your website on WordPress go to WordPress.com and click on Start your website.

2. Blogger

Google offers an amazing service calls Blogger. It's a blogging platform but capable of making any kind of websites such as an e-commerce site or portfolio. It's completely free so you don't have to pay a penny. To start your website with Blogger go to Blogspot.com and hit CREATE YOUR BLOG. Don't worry it can be more than just a blog.

Other services you should try

WordPress or Blogger, any of them is a smart beginning but if you want to try something different here is some other popular free website building platform:-
  1. Weebly
  2. Wix
  3. Site123
  4. Joomla

Step #02: Pick A Domain

A domain is the address of your website. For example, ezvibe.us is the domain of our website. You will have a sub-domain as soon as you register your website on any of those platforms above. A sub-domain is a domain that is part of another domain. In our case, your sub-domain will be part of your platform's domain. For example, if you have chosen Blogger as a platform then the sub-domain may look like http://Something.blogspot.com. You can stay with your sub-domain and access your website with it or get a personal domain from a third-party domain registrar.

Domains like .com, .net, xyz, etc. are not free and you have to pay a fair amount of price in order to have one. But remember, we are talking about FREE here. Freenom.com is a great option for having a free domain. You can register a domain with some specific extensions like .tk, .ml, .ga, etc for free from there. However, you can not have domains like .com or .net but Freenom.com is perfect for beginners.

Go to www.freenom.com, enter your desired domain name, and hit Check Availability. If your desired domain name is already taken don't worry, try something new and more unique. You can Google how to find a unique domain name. After picking up a domain name you need to register it there which will take a few seconds.

When registration is completed you can park your domain in your website building platform. The process varies from platform to platform. It's a little bit difficult task, but don't be frustrated. Check the help section of your hosting service or search on YouTube to know about parking a domain on the platform.

Step #03: Design Your Website

Designing is one of the most important things to do after creating a website. To design a website it's essential to have knowledge about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. But if you don't know anything about those, you can pick a readymade free theme/template to design your site instantly.

We all know beggars can't be choosers. But there is a lot of free themes available on WordPress and Blogger to choose from. You can pick one according to your test.

To design your website go to the Themes section of your platform.

Step #04: Add Contents To Your Website

After designing your website you are ready to use it. Adding content is your next assignment.

WordPress and Blogger posts are the contents. You can also add pages to the site. You can create a new post or page from the menu section.
It's good to have knowledge of HTML to make content but not essential. If you don't know anything about HTML just pick a visual editor instead of HTML editor. You can add links, images, videos, etc. to create more effective web content.

Step #05: Optimize Your Site For Search Engines

Search engine optimization or SEO means improving your web content to gain traffic from search engines. It's an essential part of creating a website as most of the traffic comes from search engines. There are two types of SEO required for a website: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

There is a lot about SEO you must know before starting your website. The scope of SEO is huge and impossible to cover it within a single post. We have some articles about it on our website, please check out the Search Engine Optimization section for tips and hacks on SEO. For beginners, you can start with the articles below.

Step #06: Share Your Site With The World

The final step share your website and spread your web content on the internet.
There are many different options to promote your website. You should try out at least three of them at the beginning for the best result. Remember traffic is the soul of a website and promoting your website successfully gives you satisfying traffic.

You can use social media to attract visitors, post on public forums about your website, start guest blogging, create YouTube videos about the contents of your website for promotion. Facebook, Quora, Reddit, Twitter are the classic ways for sharing your website with the world. Also, remember to focus on the newsletter.

Make the share button of your website more visible and attractive so that users can share your content easily. Ask your visitors for sharing your website. Always respond to the comments from your visitors and try to engage in a conversation with them.
A free website is very much limited and doesn't have many fancy features. But creating a free website can make a lot of things easier for you. It gives you a place on the internet without spending a dollar. So why you shouldn't try this out? With the simple steps described above, you can successfully launch your first website for free.
